Coaching Tip - Catalysts - by Peter Freeth

As coaches, we often like to think of ourselves as 'catalysts' - Peter's useful
tip develops this metaphor.

Last month's coaching tip provided a checklist of activities to grow your
business. Since then I've read Jay Abraham's book on 'Getting Everything you can
out of all you've got.' This another book which I recommend about growing your
business.

I've added a note to the original coaching tip on on 'Developing a formal
referral system' and also note on not forgetting about 'past customers and
employers' who can be a rich source of business and leads. - Even if you had a
few battles with them!

There is also an interesting chapter on testing advertising. There can be a huge
variance in the results between two promotional approaches for a product or
service - Testing is the only way of finding out what's best.

I'm always interested in stories from previous delegates. Following attending an
NLP foundation seminar Julia wrote a poem and for the first time in her life
submitted it for a poetry competition. - She won first prize.

Ecademy electronic networking
----------------------------------

I've been looking at the growth of ecademy. At the beginning of 2003 they had
11,000 members  by the end of 2005 they expect 70,000. While I find it a little
bit like a grown up school playground - with all sorts of interesting
'characters.' I think it is on track to become a key means of developing
contacts and business concepts in addition to a route to market.  Joining fees
range from free, £25pa, £120pa, £550pa and £3000 one off (all+VAT) depending on
your membership level.

Glossary of terms - Meta model
----------------------------------------------------------

To make them easier to remember I'm including one NLP term a month.

Meta Model:

The meta model is a model developed by John Grinder and Richard Bandler that
defines syntactic environments by which one can detect and challenge deletions,
generalisations and distortions.

In practice it’s a series of questions that are based on language and when done
in the right way can be very useful to: Understand something better, help
somebody check their logic or cause profound change in a client's thinking.

I remember (as a marketing manager) being in a sales meeting just after having
learnt the meta model. When attacked with a series of fairly aggressive
questions (part of the territory for a marketing manager) - I found I really
enjoyed batting them back. Not an intended use of the meta model - but
delightfully practical!
